Posted 3/20/12

Chapel Hill, NC’s HORSEBACK has premiered a brand new song entitled “Ahriman” from their highly anticipated new full-length, Half Blood at this location. The album was recorded by HORSEBACK mastermind Jenks Miller at The Chateau and is a true synthesis of the eclectic sounds the band has explored in the past. Set for a May 8th release on CD/LP/Digital, the material on Half Blood is an amalgamation of drone, doom, black-metal, psychedelia, post-rock, noise, and ambience recorded with a wide array of instruments including guitar, bass, drums, keys, piano, bells, contact mics, field recordings, drum programming, noise and various signal processors. The album’s stunning artwork, created by Russian surrealist painter Denis Forkas Kostromitin, is available for viewing at this location. Additionally, the album’s tracklisting is available below:

1. Mithras
2. Ahriman
3. Inheritance (The Changeling)
4. Arjuna
5. Hallucigenia I: Hermetic Gifts
6. Hallucigenia II: Spiritual Junk
7. Hallucigenia III: The Emerald Tablet

Updated HORSEBACK news / album information will be made available at the Relapse Records website and the HORSEBACK Facebook page.

“The Invisible Mountain the same epic instrumental rock feel of Grails or Tarentel, and Miller's vocals are so growled and low in the mix that at times they are easy to mistake for another guitar. Both elements separate Horseback from the usual swampy sound of drone rock." - The Wire

“It's like a vision quest guided by Rhys Chatham, Tony Iommi and Matthew Bower ... There are no climaxes here. Mountain isn't cathartic thanks to moments of release, but rather its 40-minute commitment to deliberation." - The Independent

“Listening to Horseback’s Invisible Mountain is like listening to the soundtrack to the most profound and thought-provoking movie you’ve ever seen.” – Verbicide

“A spiritually epic journey that you cannot afford to miss.” – Terrorizer
