ROYAL THUNDER AND PITCHFORK GIVEAWAY ACOUSTIC TRACK, BAND JOINS DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN FOR SPRING TOUR; DECIBEL X CONVERSE BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO
Royal Thunder and Pitchfork are giving fans a free download of the Atlanta band’s stirring acoustic rendition of “Black Water Vision” (http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/15230-black-water-vision-acoustic/).
Recorded earlier this year, the acoustic version is a testament to the relatively new band’s musical prowess which was echoed by David Fricke (Rolling Stone) in his recent appraisal of the band’s SXSW performance: “heavy with the meaty, base elements of early-Seventies British blues in guitarist Josh Weaver’s harmonic-fuzz sustain and a striking vocal change-up in bassist Mlny Parsonz, whose robust projection and supple vibrato made me think of Jefferson Airplane’s Grace Slick at a lower, godless pitch.”

Learn MoreROYAL THUNDER'S DEBUT ALBUM, CVI, AVAILABLE NOW: HEAR THE RECORD SPIN CALLS A "STUNNING BREAKTHROUGH" IN ITS ENTIRETY VIA AOL, ALTERNATIVE PRESS, PASTE AND EXCLAIM WEBSITES
Royal Thunder, the Atlanta co-ed quartet who drew attention for their astonishing 2010 self-titled EP, release their full-length debut, CVI, today via Relapse Records.
"It's hard not to admire Royal Thunder's sonic acumen," explained Decibel in the magazine's June lead review. "It's satisfyingly heavy, but in no way extreme. It's brooding without being self-involved. It's unmistakably Southern, but with nary a whiff of faux-rural sh*t-kicking or questionable confederate/honky-tonk orthodoxy. Above all, it's magnificently compelling rock music."
Revolver said CVI is "essential" and described the band's offering as "a thick rock hurricane that spins soaring melodies and searing heaviness in almost every direction" while Outburn said Royal Thunder is a "standout amongst their peers" and the album "brings a new kind of heavy to the table." Paste Magazine said CVI "meshes together a solid hour of Southern metal and classic rock that builds upon their formidable 2010 EP," with NPR (in an All Songs Considered blog feature) adding, "CVI not only builds on the promise of a great EP, but it's also a portrait of songs that have been painstakingly lived in..."
Several outlets are sharing full album streams of CVI this week including Alternative Press (with track-by-track information), AOL Spinner, Exclaim, Paste Magazine and Rdio.
Royal Thunder celebrates the album's release with a May 26 hometown show at The Earl before joining Valient Thorr and Holy Grail for a five-week U.S. tour.
